Litter is not only a hindrance to making our city beautiful. It is also expensive to clean up, impacts our citizens’ quality of life, our city’s economic development, and eventually ends up in our waterways.
Litter Index Join us every spring as we dispatch across the city to count the litter in our city. The litter index provides a comprehensive assessment of the overall appearance of our community using indicators such as litter, illegal signs, and graffiti. The index is designed to gather data annually by surveying a random, statistical sample of the city. Keep Lexington Beautiful uses the results to help develop a plan to change local attitudes and behaviors and to plan clean ups.
Cigarette Litter Prevention Did you know that cigarettes are the most littered item in America? Across the country, cigarettes are littered 65% of the time. And cigarette butts don’t disappear. 95% of cigarette filters are comprised of cellulose acetate, a plastic which can persist in the environment.
Keep Lexington Beautiful has partnered with local car dealerships to give out free car ashtrays.
